Frequently Asked Questions
HOW ARE YOU DIFFERENT FROM OTHER MOMMY AND ME CLASSES?
Great Question! As psychologists, we wanted to create a therapeutic mommy and me class that not only helps strengthen your relationship with your baby, but also a place where you can nurture and develop yourself as a person and a mom! We have created a curriculum where we include a lot of the "typical" mommy & Me class structure and information, including activities and educational material, but we also provide a unique emphasis on your mental health, building of community, and cultural identity. There is an attachment component, and babies do attend class with our moms, but it is not the sole focus of our group. We cover different topics every week that pertain to being a person and a mother, including developmental stages, sleeping and feeding, partner and familial relationships, and traditions and routines (just to name a few).
WHAT CAN I EXPECT WHEN I COME TO CLASS?
When you join our classes, you join our Nurturing me & Baby Family! Not only will you have access to two knowledgeable psychologists, but you will gain a community of moms with babies the same age as yours to start building your "mommy tribe". We will start every class by providing you with information, but also allowing time and space for open discussion, questions, and processing of whatever topic we are discussing. We will also spend some time during every class doing an activity that will engage your baby and ties into our topic for the week.
We also want you to be comfortable! During class, feel free to feed your baby, change your baby, walk around with your baby... whatever you need! We are all in this together, so we want you to feel comfortable with whatever you need to do during the time we are together.

DOES THIS GROUP HELP MOMS WITH POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION?
this is a very important question! Postpartum mood and anxiety disorders (PMADS) are important and prevalent issues to address and treat in new moms. We do address this topic in one of our sessions, and we process the shared experiences within our group. we talk about helpful tools and resources, including Postpartum depression Support groups that, that unlike us, focus entirely on postpartum mood and anxiety disorders such as postpartum depression. Prior to the start of our classes, all our moms fill out a questionnaire that helps us identify these issues and assess for their needs, and gives us the opportunity to provide the care they deserve and need. this means that depending on their needs, some moms who inquire about our group may benefit more from individual or group therapy specifically targeted for postpartum depression, or other services/resources rather than being in our groups at that time. Both Dr. Jenn and Dr. Aline have completed a certificate course by Postpartum Support international (PSI), and Pay Special Attention to this topic so that we can provide specific goals for our moms and the group. Please feel free to contact us if you feel you are going through postpartum depression or other PMADS, and/or would like further information regarding this topic.
